New York, New York!
May 10, 2017
The shining city of New York is known for a lot of things: fashion, food, and, most importantly, art! Central Arizona College’s Graphic Design Club (GDC) has been working tirelessly for the last two semesters to raise money for our graduating students to go to New York, where they will go to several prestigious museums and see the art they have been learning about in their art and design classes.
The GDC students have been raising money by creating works of their own and selling them at school events. These works include greeting cards, typography posters, calendars, and more—all created and photographed by the students themselves. Through this process, they have learned important business and people skills, lessons they can apply to their future jobs as graphic designers. The students also have a raffle, with the grand prize of a metal print photograph by Susan Tatterson, second prize is a signed acrylic abstract painting by Quinton Prunty, and the third prize is a $100 Amazon gift card!
Once in New York, GDC students are planning to visit the Cooper Hewitt Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, and hopefully The Cloisters. All these museums showcase the history these graphic design students have been studying for the majority of their academic careers at CAC— from the development of Medieval typography to the modern art of graphic designers of our generation. It will be truly inspirational and life-changing for them to see these works of art with their own eyes.
The Graphic Design Club will be selling their art and raffle tickets until April 30th, so if you’d like to help us through our last stretch towards our goal, it’d be greatly appreciated!
