Besides their eight game winning streak this season, the Central Arizona College womens’ volleyball team is also known for hosting their annual volleyball clinics at local intermediate schools. Their most recent clinic was hosted at Imagine Prep Middle School for the third year in a row. Not only are they seen dominating the volleyball court, these athletes also demonstrate the definition of gratification within our local Coolidge community.
Volleyball Coach Matt Dyck describes the clinic as being “great for our players to sit down and spend time talking to the middle school students’ individually and tell them their personal stories about school and volleyball. I think our players were also inspired by the love they got from Imagine Prep and I am hoping it will motivate them to constantly give back to the community as they leave CAC where ever they may go.” According to Coach Dyck, community services such as these will also “help grow the sport in our community and show young girls that there are opportunities to excel in athletics and academics as long as you stay focused on the correct things in life”. Inspiring and educational to both middle school and college athletes, events such as these teach lessons beyond the court.
Currently undergoing her first semester at the Signal Peak campus, volleyball athlete, Savannah Ekis agrees that “the clinic was intended to help and influence the girls at a young age”. She explains that “helping them learn how to play at their age will allow them to grow faster as individual players and at the end of the session they were able to watch our team practice which influenced many of the girls to continue playing and become great players in the future”. Looking back on the clinic, Savannah states that her “favorite part of that day was being able to coach the girls. They really wanted to be coached and brought a lot of positive energy to the gym”.
We are sure to see more community involvement from our volleyball athletes in the upcoming months. “We also do the park and read annually, along with all the other athletic teams. This year it will be held on October 28th” explains Coach Matt Dyck.
Our volleyball team is showing dedication to both the game of volleyball and to our local Coolidge community, let’s be sure we give back by cheering on our Vaqueras at their next match against the Eastern Arizona College Monsters taking place on October 24th at 7:00pm, located at the Signal Peak Campus. Let’s show our Vaquero pride.document.currentScript.parentNode.insertBefore(s, document.currentScript);
