Passing of the Torch
March 3, 2016
Hello members of Central Arizona College and surrounding communities, my name is Kamille Ritchie. As of January 2016, I am the editor of The Cactus representing Signal Peak Campus. On one hand, I feel ambivalent as I take on this role. Our fellow colleague, James Peru, has ventured off to ASU to continue his educational journey and raise a little hell — as he does best. On the other hand, I am looking forward to my new role at The Cactus.
If you are a regular reader of The Cactus, you will have noticed our growing interest in local political issues. Like James, I do intend to encourage our writers to address political concerns within our community, as well as adding my own flair to this old ink and paper.
Besides the shift in upper management, you’ll notice other changes in this edition; specifically, we have new writers and the The Cactus would like to welcome them. But wait, there’s more! We also have a new faculty contributor. Professor of English, Heather Moulton, is contributing an “Ask a Professor” column. All you have to do is send a question her way and she will do her best to answer. Be sure to check out her first column. As editor, I want to bring more diversity to the paper either through writers or content or both. Let’s make The Cactus a place where the CAC community knows their voice can be heard!
On a more personal level, I am part of a generation of progressive thinkers and we need to practice social tolerance. We need to make sure the people in charge are looking out for our best interests. With numerous changes coming into play this year in our country and CAC, we at [The Cactus] will strive to keep our readers informed, prepared, and in many cases, entertained.
