Card Crawl
App. Review
December 19, 2015
Card crawl, as the name may or may not imply, is a card game. However, there are no suits, per se. No Queen of Diamonds or Jack of Spades. Card Crawl isn’t your grandmother’s solitaire (though she may enjoy it, if she has a smartphone or tablet).
It is, however, a fun app that involves staring down a horned beast who has challenged you to a card game, while he drinks endless mugs of beer. As you try and figure out if you should use your potion card or not, or try and save the sword card, he will deal out cards that may be monsters that require slaying.
Card Crawl is basically a dungeon crawler played via cards. You are dealt a random hand of three cards each turn, any of which may be a potion, monster, shield, sword, coins, or a special card. Your character has a numbered amount of health, and you must balance foresight with chance in order to stay alive.
In order to play, you must preemptively strike monsters to kill them, or let them hit you, or your shield, in order to use up their hit points. Once they have been drained, their card will be removed from the hand, and you will have to figure out how to deal with the rest of the deck. At any given time, you have four cards available to you, and you must remove three of them before the dealer will deal any more (similar to solitaire).
Card crawl is a very fun game that lets you while away the hours. Graphically, it has rather charming 2-D animations and drawings (watch the spider fall into the dealer’s mug without his notice). It almost seems to aim for a hand drawn look, and it succeeds despite looking very polished and sharp.
Graphics aside, the app is fun, and definitely worth taking a look at. Even though Card Crawl is free on Google Play and Amazon, it does cost $2.99 on the Appstore. Price aside, go and check it out!document.currentScript.parentNode.insertBefore(s, document.currentScript);
