Business Buzz 11-14

January 13, 2015
The Business Club is off to a great start this academic year. We are finishing the semester with our annual Tamale Fundraiser which went very well for us last year. We’ve been very successful with our Workplace Workshops and have been successful at our Fall Leadership Conferences; almost all of our members placed as well as placing our alumni members that attended. Our members have also enjoyed our industry visits and next semester we are looking to step up our game. Our welcome week event will be a mini Business Career Exploration Day where students can explore degree and career opportunities we have at the college. We will have a one-hour period where students can visit with culinary, accounting, business, hotel restaurant management, and computer information systems.
The first weekend in November we sent four members of the Central Arizona College Business Club to the Collegiate DECA Fall Leadership Conference. This one day event was held on Saturday November 8th in north Phoenix at Grand Canyon University. The conference, which was attended by college students from around the state, focused on the best practices for developmental activities. These activities were aimed at helping members get an edge on the upcoming Collegiate DECA ICDC Conference which will be held in Orlando, FL in April of 2015.
That same day our Advisor Linda Friedel and business club president Sierra Evans went to San Francisco State University for a Financial Analysis and Management Education Conference. This all day conference was very educational as there were professionals from Goldman Sachs, Charles Schwab, Wells Capital and many more companies all talking about hedge funds, global markets, fixed income, and alternative investments.
In the spring we will be holding a Winter Leadership Conference, and the theme will be “It’s All About Who You Know.” The conference will be focused on teaching students how to network, what to do and what not to do. We will also be giving away prizes such as gift cards to Vista Print for business cards, gifts from Men’s Wearhouse and much more. As well as learning about networking students from U of A, Embry-Riddle, ASU, NAU, Phoenix College, Devry University, and more will be competing in events from Marketing to Computer Systems, to Accounting, to Justice Administration. It’s a great opportunity for our members to meet and network with students whowill be working in the same field as them.
We are looking forward to building connections with other schools and companies. We will have two state competitions and a Winter Leadership Conference next semesters as well as the Phi Beta Lambda National Conference in Chicago, IL in June 2015.} else {
