FSG Announces Jonathan Franzen’s New Novel

Purity

Publishing company Farrar, Straus & Giroux (FSG) recently announced its plans to release author Jonathan Franzen’s highly anticipated fifth novel, titled “Purity,” in September of next year. The novel will be a departure from Franzen’s earlier novels, like the National Book Award winning “The Corrections” and its critically acclaimed follow up “Freedom,” by attempting to break the mold of social realism that Franzen has become synonymous with. “There’s a kind of fabulist quality to it,” says FSG on the book. “It’s not strict realism. There’s a kind of mythic undertone to the story.”
The story will follow the title character Purity Tyler on her journey through multiple countries, continents and decades as she attempts to discover the identity of her father. Love him or hate him, next year will certainly be an interesting one for literature with this book’s release. I know I am very excited!
