CAC’s first race on campus in over 15 years will be held at the Signal Peak Campus on Oct. 9.

The Inaugural CAMPY Invitational is a cross country race event. The event is for all who wish to sign up either with their club team, school team, or as an unattached runner. This will not be a community race. However, cross country head coach John Harmon hopes to include a community race in the future.

Athletes can register for the race at directathletics.com under the Vaquero 10-09-21 event. Signups end on Oct. 6. The event is open to individual athletes, college, and junior college students. The cost to participate in the race is $100 per team, or $20 for an individual not on a team.

The name “CAMPY” was made in honor of past CAC cross country coaches including Chuck Schnoor (C), Al Shirley (A), Mike Gray (M), Paul Tavares (P), and George Young (Y). In honor of those coaches, CAC hopes to hold a CAMPY Invitational every year.

Coach Harmon, CAC’s head cross country coach, said the CAMPY Invitational this year expects, ”Roughly 150 participants.” Coach Harmon also stated he is, ”Hoping for more participants each year to grow this event”.

As stated on CAC’s home website, the race will be, ”A competitive and challenging course including a combination of dirt (80%), grass (10%) and pavement (10%), plus moderate inclines.” The men’s race is eight-kilometers, or approximately five miles. The women’s race is five-kilometers, or approximately three miles.

For more information on the race, email coach Harmon at  [email protected]  or go todirectathletics.com.
